Tis the season....to make the balcony look inviting. Finally summer has come. A bike ride to get some flowers for the balcony. I think I bought too many as it made the ride home adventurous. I like being creative.

An awesome Thursday evening wet and slippery ride at Fiskartorpet. Was expecting the trail conditions to be more muddy and slippery but I lucked out.

A hiking we will go. An attempt to summit Brevent was thwarted by the steep incline and in deep snow. It was not all a loss as we made our way over the snowy trail lower down and headed towards Petit Balcon Sud and then a long descent towards Chamonix.

Hammarby Alpine Marathon: 23 times up, down and around the Hammarbybacke ski slope. Ouch! It was a demanding challenge but not one that got the best of me. At -3°C, I started off slow as it was a long feat. On every climb I managed to run the same sections, even on the last lap. I naturally felt exhausted in my legs but generally my energy was high. There was som discrepancy with the chip system and lap times but that didn't hamper a great run. Overall I am very pleased that I could manage to pull of 23 climbs, something I would never imagine completing in training. Would I do it again? Maybe in training but not sure in a race.

Sörmlands Ultra 50k: I didn't have any focused goal other than run a long distance, and enjoy being out in nature. I found myself running with a buddy, Carl Johan for the entire race. We had a good time at a mellow pace. Of course he thought I slowed down to his pace but I think it was quite the opposite. A great event.

Ursvik Ultra 75 km Trail Race: A midnight start, running on dirt and snow and in mud, on a tough forest trail, -4 C and for up to 10.5 hours. Sounds like fun huh? It was a tough race as it was very demanding terrain and so cold that the water in my handheld water bottle kept freezing during the race. I felt sleepy quite a few times and started seeing things that weren't there. Occasionally I didn't see runners ahead or behind for several kilometers and thought perhaps I was in a twilight zone and I was the only one still on the course. No "hugging clowns" in the forest, thankfully. It was great knowing that my friends Rob, Andrew and Michael were also out on the course. My goals: 1-Complete the 75 km but focus on 15 km distances so as not to be overwhelmed with the long distance. Done! 2-Focus on my eating and drinking so I didn't bonk. Done! 3-Finish the race before Michele started his Rome Marathon. 35 minutes ahead of schedule. Done!

Jättelång 68 km ultra trail run on Roslagsleden from Grisslehamn to Norrtälje. A very sunny & windy run that started at 10C and slowly creeped up to 19C under the race. I kept pace for the first 30 km with a group of runners who had run it before as I was not interested in being one of those 98% who get lost. It was smart because only once when I was alone 15 km from the finish did I run 10 m past a turn. From the village of Grisslehamn, it was a very beautiful coastline run for the first 25 km with lots of roots, rocks & mud to make it fun. After that it was a mix of dirt roads, forest trails, rocks and roots & a little pavement into the finish in Norrtälje. At times in the open landscape, the gusts of wind blowing from different directions were so strong it was tough to run straight. Running through the small forest and country villages was amazing with small cottages and farmhouses. Arriving in the center of historic Norrtälje was cool because there was lots of people along the sides cheering. A beautiful and challenging race that in the end with a little added section ended up being 69 km. What's an extra km when you are having fun?
