Rosskopflauf When I woke up that morning it was raining through dark clouds and my motivation to run was close to zero. But well, there was a mountain race ahead and I had an appointment with a colleague from work. Arriving at the starting location, I was surprised to see over 100 people at this local running event in the small village of Heuweiler with its 1000 residents. After the start the bad weather was nearly forgotten. The way went steadily upward to of the top of the 737 meters high mountain. At first on the streets of the beautiful village, continuing through forest roads and finally running up to the top on trails. Beeing not much of a mountain runner (but liking it nonetheless), I went up the hill at a relatively slow pace together with my colleague. After 9km we reached the top. Normally you've got a really good sight up there. But this day it was all grey and the clouds blocked the view. Instead of watching the scene, we increased our speed and ran downhill. Even at this faster speed we had the chance to regenerate from the climb - probably an indication that I shoud run a bit faster next time... Accompanied by a light drizzle, we reached the the goal after 18,4km. My legs were dirty all over, including a small muddy lake in my shoes. Despite of the weather I must say: This race was real fun! 27. Internationaler Kaiserstuhllauf am 11.03.2012 in Ihringen Hey, time for the rookie to smell the air of an official race! Having started running last year around July and training for the half marathon in Freiburg since November, I decided it was time to try an official event before "the big race" coming in April. So I went to the gym in Ihringen to get my start number. Hmm, how to fix this damn thing with the safety pins? And OMG! All these runners are looking so "professional". Well, I was a bit nervous, not knowing anybody, despite one of the organizers (who did't have the time to talk with me at this time). After the start I was focused again - I wanted to start my "official runs" with a good time. Only problem was, my leg hurt a bit from the training weeks before: too much and probably too fast for a beginner. But no time for whining - running uphill, I was eager to reach the top. As it has been raining the day before, it was cool and a bit muddy. The way up was mostly forest roads and trails. Just before the top, it was so muddy, I had to walk a bit. Well, not only because of the mud, but being out of breath, too. I felt relived to reach the top, having reached my personal limit. The way down was pleasant. Having a good sight over the valley and running slowly because of my leg I enjoyed the rest of the run and reached the goal in a passable time. This was a good run! 9. Freiburg Halbmarathon 2012 Time for the Freiburg Marathon - and a personal challenge: My first official half marathon. It was really a cold morning for this time of year. But beeing my first half marathon I was extremely motivated. My goal was a time under the magic two hour limit. This would be a great personal success. My test race two weeks ago running the same course was a bit over 2h. There were about 10.000 participants this year and they had changed the course a bit compared to the years before. One of the highlights at this marathon are the music bands located at the course, making this event a bit of a party. The weather during the course was sunny and cool - optimal conditons for the run. I started slowly, keeping the 2h pacer in sight. It was all going smoothly - and I was really happy that I could run the distance without becoming exhausted. In the middle of the run, I caught up to the 2h pacers and passed by. Only the last 2km were a bit hard - but I ran with a guy I met there, talking about this great running event. A few hundread meters before the goal, my family awaited me, giving me the last speed boost to reach my personal goal. I finished with the official time of 1:56:52. What a day!
