Hey Richard:

I haven't had the gumption to do a max hr test since starting on with the Suunto T4c. As a fellow 40 year old, I am wondering what protocol you used to establish your max.

RichardBolt 12.4.2011

I've not done a max HR test in years but think it's now in the high 170's. Found this online: "find a hill that takes 2 min to run up it and of sufficient gradient to ensure you are breathing hard at its summit. The test begins around 5 min running time away from the hill. Gradually accelerate towards the hill achieving 85% MHR (for the first time) at the base of the hill. As you hit the hill, maintain your speed by increasing your effort. Keep pushing until you nearly collapse from the effort.

gregh 13.4.2011

Thanks for the idea. I have done only one MHR (as an 18 year old). Even at that time, I was under 190. Looking at how I respond to hard efforts now, I think I may be a low 170s max.
