Mt Mathieson Loop | Sunrise at Governor's Chair (so good!) and closed out with the Mt Mathieson loop. Really fun run - the trail was really diverse and lots of sweet runnable stuff.
Ultra-Trail Australia 100km
Everything is covered in the blog post except nutrition. Basically stuck with Shotz tabs in my water throughout and drank to thirst. Shotz gel every 40mins (give or take). Small amount of Coke at CP 3&4. A couple of potato chips at Fairmont (~70km). Nutrition felt solid throughout, although I was well and truly over gels by the end (but kept getting them in OK).
[M 2/2] Mt Maroon Hike | First visit to Mt Maroon. Pretty damn cool.
S1.RA [H] WECH50 LR | Adventure run week, so I took the chance to take a look at the new WECH50 course. Pretty damn schmick.
Died in the arse a little at the end, I suspect largely when I stopped taking in electrolytes (about halfway up Apple Tree stairs).
Otherwise felt pretty good. Nutrition was OK until I ran out, and the body felt pretty strong. There were some heavily overgrown sections along the trail (Ships Stern and Nerang-M'Bah Rd creek crossings in particular), but otherwise I ran the runnable and kept it pretty measured on the rest.
Put it in the bank.
A4.RA [H] Caves, Daves, Ships Stern, Lower Bellbird | Adventure run. Linked up the first section of the new WECH50 route (plus added on Caves instead of the road) - it's going to be a cracker. I'm feeling super flat this week, and today was no exception; simply not enough sleep and an overworked brain. That aside, I felt pretty rubbish early - my legs didn't want to go uphill at all - but felt OK in the back half. Ships Stern in particular was VERY slow going with lots of tree fall.
A3.RA [H] Polly's to Apple Tree RTN (via Numinbah) | I needed this one. With my dodgy back and a new structure to my training, I haven't been sure where I was sitting fitness wise - but I'd been feeling underdone. It turns out I'm tracking pretty darn well...I didn't push the pace at all this morning, but I was consistent and felt super strong throughout. I remember a similar run pre-Shotover around this time last year and I was cooked.
Tried Shotz electrolytes with a gel every 45mins or so (Shotz or Vfuel, I mixed it up) and my energy was good too. I'm not going off Tailwind completely, I'm just trying to find some alternatives to have in the quiver. All three ticked good boxes.
